Uses of Cationic Polyacrylamide

Polyacrylamide can be divided into cationic, anionic, nonionic, and amphoteric ion types, with molecular weights ranging from 4 million to 20 million. The appearance of the product is a white powder, soluble in water, and easily decomposed at temperatures above 120°C. Polyacrylamide can be divided into anionic, cationic, nonionic, and amphoteric ionic types. This article will introduce the uses of cationic polyacrylamide.

Effective pH Range of Cationic Polyacrylamide

First, the pH value of the reference water quality is considered. The effective pH range for anionic polyacrylamide is generally 5-14, showing significant effects in treating alkaline, neutral, and weakly acidic water. The effective pH range for cationic polyacrylamide is 7-14, with outstanding effects in treating alkaline and neutral water; the application range for nonionic polyacrylamide is pH 1-8, which has excellent effects on treating acidic water.

Uses of Cationic Polyacrylamide

  • Cationic polyacrylamide flocculant is mainly used for industrial solid-liquid separation processes, including sedimentation, clarification, concentration, and sludge dewatering. It is primarily used in industrial and municipal wastewater treatment, the paper industry, food processing, the petrochemical industry, the metallurgical industry, mineral processing, the dyeing industry, the sugar industry, and various industrial wastewater treatments.

  • Cationic polypropylene fiber slurry can improve the drainage performance of molded asbestos cement products and increase the strength of asbestos boards. In insulation boards, it can improve the adhesion between additives and fibers.

  • Used for wastewater from distilleries, breweries, MSG factories, sugar factories, meat processing plants, beverage factories, textile dyeing factories, and various wastewater treatment plants. Cationic polyacrylamide contains a variety of organic solvents, as well as inorganic and organic sulfides, hydrocarbons, chlorine, petroleum, mercury, and other harmful environments. Before discharge, it can be flocculated with PAM. It can also be used as a sludge treatment agent in textile dyeing processes, such as selective clogging agent, thickener, softener, anti-static agent, and water injection agent.

  • In the papermaking industry, it can be used as a paper dry strength agent, retention aid, and filter aid. It can significantly improve paper quality, reduce costs, and increase the production capacity of paper mills.

  • Cationic polyacrylamide can be used with coal washing wastewater clarifiers as mine wastewater treatment.

  • It can be used in the treatment of dyeing wastewater, leather wastewater, and oily wastewater for turbidity reduction and decolorization to meet discharge standards.

  • Used for water purification, oil-water emulsion breaking, oily wastewater treatment, wastewater recovery systems, and sludge dewatering. Cationic polyacrylamide can effectively reduce liquid friction. Adding a small amount of polyacrylamide to water can reduce friction by 50-80%.

  • Cationic polyacrylamide aids in the separation of gypsum in wet-process phosphoric acid.

  • Cationic polyacrylamide is used as a flocculant in water plant water treatment.

  • It is typically used for wastewater treatment and organic wastewater treatment. Generally, wastewater flocculation and sedimentation involve negatively charged suspended particles. Depending on the acidic or alkaline medium, cationic flocculation is highly effective for quickly clarifying and treating wastewater. In addition to powdered polyacrylamide, polyaluminum chloride, and anionic polyacrylamide molded products, they are also widely used in organic wastewater treatment.
