Anionic flocculant is a type of polymer water treatment agent that carries a negative charge. It is mainly used to treat wastewater with no organic matter. Anionic polyacrylamide is commonly used in industry due to its high molecular weight, variety of product types, and wide range of selection, which is beneficial for targeted treatment of different types of wastewater. Its main purpose is to adsorb solid particles or agglomerates in water and bridge them into flocs, which are larger groups of particles that can settle by their own weight or be removed by mechanical equipment. This article introduces the usage and precautions of anionic flocculants.
Method: A dissolution device is required, which can be an automatic dosing system or a manual dosing system. Prepare a dissolution tank, which should have a stirring device (determine the size of the tank according to the needs). Add some water first (the best practice is to immerse the stirring blade), and start stirring (the best speed is 100-130 revolutions per second). Slowly add the flocculant into the water at a ratio of 0.1%-0.3%. The stirring time is about 40-60 minutes, and the dissolution rate may vary depending on the type of flocculant. The dissolved solution can then be pumped into the wastewater to be treated.
Powder products cannot be directly added to wastewater. They must be dissolved in water, and clean tap water should be used. It is not recommended to use recycled water to prepare the solution, which will be used to treat the wastewater.
Anionic flocculants should be prepared and used immediately. If stored for too long, their effectiveness may be affected. The solution of non-anionic polymeric water-soluble solution can be stored for no more than seven days at a concentration of 0.1%.
When preparing, transferring, and storing the solution of anionic polyacrylamide flocculants, try to avoid the entry of iron ions. Devices in contact with the solution should preferably be made of stainless steel, plastic, glass fiber reinforced plastic, or carbon steel coated with resin.
The appearance of efficient anionic flocculants is white granular or powdered. It is a water-soluble polymer with polar groups in its molecular chain. It can adsorb solid particles suspended in water, bridge particles or agglomerates, and coagulate them into larger flocs through charge neutralization. Therefore, it can accelerate the settling of particles in suspension, and has a very significant effect on accelerating solution clarification and promoting filtration.
Above is the usage and precautions of anionic flocculants that we introduce to you. More specific practices should be implemented according to the actual situation on site.
